New transducer acting up at the dock did I mount it wrong?

I just got a used Yamaha and put a new transducer on it before taking it out for the first time. Everything seemed to be working well at first, but I noticed at the dock that it was randomly showing a depth of over 130 feet. It also kept flashing when I was backing up, but then it settled down once I started cruising. I've never done this installation before, so I'm wondering if I might've mounted it incorrectly. The water's around 7 feet deep, and there's no debris or any other boats around. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Might be mounted too low or at the wrong angle. That can cause false depth readings and flashing, especially when backing up or sitting still, since its likely picking up turbulence or bubbles. Once youre moving, the water flow evens out and it works better, pretty common when the mount's a bit off. Try adjusting the height and angle so it sits just below the hull and level with the waterline. A small tweak should fix it

If your transducer's showing 130 feet in 7 feet of water, it's almost definitely mounted wrong, probably too high or angled poorly. People underestimate how sensitive depth finders are to turbulence near the prop, so recheck your install carefully

bro, where exactly did you mount it? It needs to be in a spot where there's smooth, undisturbed water flow.
Even a slight rivet, strake, or anything causing turbulence just ahead of it can mess up the signal, especially at low speeds or in reverse
