Cavitation, water leaking into engine bay

Hey guys, I have a 2003 LX210. I recently put in new wear rings. I took it out for a rip and one side is still cavitation, there is also water leaking into the engine compartment, it looks to be where the shaft would seal. Is the plastic piece on the outside of the boat what seals the shaft or is there there an internal seal on the shaft? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Got a 2002 Yamaha LS2000 and ran into something similar after replacing wear rings last summer. That plastic piece outside is part of the seal system, but there's also an internal shaft seal or the bearing carrier or mid-shaft seal that keeps water out of the engine bay. If that's worn or misaligned, it can cause both cavitation and leaks.

I suggest checking the seal housing and make sure the shaft is not scored. Also, inspect the silicone around the intake and pump, missing sealant can cause cavitation too.

Sounds like your shaft seal's toast, not the plastic piece outside. Cavitation plus water intrusion screams bad internal seal. If you don't swap it soon, you'll chew that pump up quick.

@Dallas Clark glad you figured it out! Internal seals are tricky but definitely the culprit when cavitation and leaks show up together. Good catch taking it apart before it did more damage.
